Happy Thursday. It's almost Friday!
Honestly, that sentiment used to mean a lot more just a couple of months ago. Now, working from home, I'm sure most of us get some semblance of a weekend every day. All except for the essential workers, who are dedicating nearly 100% of their time during this crisis, and if you couldn't tell by the title, that's who this post is dedicated to.
I believe it's important to recognize the efforts of those who are putting themselves in harm's way for our safety. I want to thank the nurses, the doctors, the truck drivers, the grocery store restocks, baggers, and cashiers...It's incredible how life as we know it can halt, but life for them speeds up, and they're expected to keep pace.
We take them for granted, along with the simple pleasures in life we're now missing without. I saw a Tweet where someone joked about a grandmother in 2070 encouraging kids to go out and play, because when she was a kid, "outside" was illegal. I'd sort of laughed at it at the time, but now I can't help but feel that there's so much truth behind that humorous Tweet. We really do take certain things―activities, pleasures, people―for granted. I guess it's true that you never know what you had until you've lost it.
My own work has continued from home, and I'm blessed and grateful to say that it hasn't slowed down. As a writer, I'm fortunate enough to conduct my work from wherever there is WiFi, and thankfully I have that. So as promised, the sequel to Heroin(e) : Entropy will be released:
MAY 19
While I'm still going a bit stir crazy locked up in my house, it's giving me the time I need to ensure that your long-awaited sequel to the bestselling political thriller is everything you hoped it would be. I'm even in talks with some pretty cool people, and who knows? Maybe it'll lead to something bigger and better for Entropy Media.
As for those who can't enjoy a beautiful, lazy Thursday afternoon, I again say thank you, and I hope that if you know anyone who is an essential worker, you find the time to thank them as well.
I trend I saw on Twitter and―shockingly―Venmo really touched me. It's called the #VenmoItForward. By now, most of you have probably heard of it, and if you've looked into it much, you'll notice that Venmo supports it as well. So if you can, #VenmoItForward, support your friends and local essential employees by Venmoing them money for a coffee or a snack. It doesn't take much, and I guarantee it'll put a smile on someone's face. Someone who is working long hours during a time when we all get to work from home and be with our loved ones.
Take the time to appreciate them if you haven't already. We need them, and many of them are more important than we've ever given them credit for.
